Squad Structure

Makos (Mini Squad)

45 Minutes

Makos can swim 25m Freestyle and 25 Backstroke prior to commencement at MCA Swim Club. Coaches will work on perfecting starts, teach tumble turns and work on increasing endurance.  Swimmers will also learn Breaststroke in this squad.

Gear Requirements:

Long Fins, Kick Board, Goggles and Swimming Cap

Marlins (Development Squad)

60 Minutes

Marlins teaches swimmers to confidently swim all four strokes refining their technique and building a skill base. They are introduced to correct turns and dives and are taught how to use the pace clock, preparing them for squad transition.

Gear Requirements:

Long Fins, Kick Board, Pull Bouy, Swimming Cap, Goggles and Water Bottle

Barracudas (Junior Squad)

60 Minutes

The focus for junior squad swimmers is to provide competitive and recreational swimmers with further development of squad training skills and technique while increasing physical conditioning. Racing skills are also taught at this level.

Gear Requirements:

Long Fins, Kick Board, Pull Bouy, Swimming Cap, Water Bottle, Front Snorkel

Blue Fins (Intermediate/ State Squad)

1 Hour 15 Mins

The training objectives for intermediate/ state squad include skill development, race specific training and preparation for competition. Swimmers in this squad compete on a regular basis for the MCA Swim Club and aim to reach State level competition.  They will continue to gain competency in all four strokes at longer distances.

Gear Requirements:

Kick Board, Pull Bouy, Short Fins, MCA Swimming Cap, Goggles, Water Bottle, Front Snorkel, Finger paddles and Band.

Gold Fins (Senior/ National Squad)

1.5 Hours/ 2 Hours

The training objectives for the Gold Fins squad includes skill development, race specific training and preparation for competition. Swimmers in this squad compete on a regular basis for MCA Swim Club with the aim of reaching State and National Level. The Head Coach must approve entry into this squad.

Gear Requirements:

Kick Board, Pull Bouy, Short Fins, MCA Swimming Cap/ ASH Swimming Cap, Goggles, Water Bottle x 2, Front Snorkel, Finger Paddles, Band and Recording Board and Pencil.
